A LATE FREE by Niamh McDaid saw Carndonagh win the Donegal Ladies Intermediate Championship final against Buncrana at Ture.

A game that was nip and tuck throughout was only decided when McDaid arched over a free with the game clock in red time.

McDaid scored eight points in all as the Foden women took the silverware after a closely-fought all-Inishowen affair.

First-half goals by Caroline Gallagher and Alison McGonagle had Buncrana in the ascendancy and they led 2-5 to 0-6 at half-time.

However, playing against a stiff wind by the Foyle, Buncrana, could only manage two points in the second half.

Brian Stokes and Lawrence Hegarty’s Buncrana saw their five-point lead overturned eventually as Carndonagh, managed by Barry Grant and Tiarnan Coyne, chipped away at the deficit.
