A STRONG FOURTH quarter laid  the foundations for Dungloe to defeat Bundoran in a close fought encounter at Rosses Park this evening.

Dungloe 2-13  Realt na Mara 2-11

It was Tony Boyle’s side’s fourth win on the trot.

The home side got off to a whirlwind start scoring 1-1 after 60 secs from Luke Neely and Ryan Greene.

Tommy Hourihane opened the scoring for the visitors after four minutes. Both teams then exchanged points from Greene  McBride  and Shaun Sharkey, while Hourihane and two from the boot of Michael McEniff left it 1-4 to 0-4 after 12 minutes.

Dungloe were very wasteful for a 10 minutes period but did eventually find their range with two quick scores from Conor Greene and goalkeeper Danny Rodgers.

A lung-busting run from Bundoran half back Johnny Boyle reduced the deficit to four points to leave the half-time score Dungloe 1-6 Realt na Mara 0-5.

If Dungloe got the dream start in the first half it was balanced out with a nightmare  one to the second. A weak Jamie Brennan effort somehow deceived Rodgers in the Dungloe goals to leave it a one-point game after only two minutes of the half.

Bundoran dominated the opening 10 minutes of the half but were guilty of some very poor shooting although two further Jamie Brennan  points edged them in front for the first time.

Dungloe got their first score of second half from Adam Neely before Paul Brennan replied with a wonderful effort. Then on the 40th minute Ryan Greene turned brilliantly to lash home his second goal.

This score lifted his team and they hit the next three scores from McBride Neely and  Sharkey to leave five points between the sides with eight minutes remaining. Bundoran to their credit never gave up and points from the Brennan’s left only three between the sides.

Dungloe’s inspirational  midfielder McBride pointed again before Hourihane and Neely exchanged  points to leave it a four-point game as injury time approached.

An insurance score from Barry Curran was enough to see his side secure victory although Jamie Brennan did hit a consolation goal for the visitors on the stoke of full time.
