Chloe Magee up against top German at Olympics tonight

CHLOE MAGEE faces another tricky test tonight at the Olympic Games when she takes on Germany’s Karin Schnaase.

The Raphoe woman, who was beaten yesterday by top Chinese player Wang Yihan 21-7, 21-12, was handed a tough group and Schnaase is next up for the now three-time Olympian from Donegal.

Magee and Schnaase get underway around 1am Irish time.

Schnaase was a regular opponent for Magee during her time in the German League.

CHLOE MAGEE-1

Schnaase has won a couple of tournaments recently.

Last December, she beat Magee’s old foe Kati Tolmoff 21-17, 21-5 to claim gold at the Mersin Turkey International.

Wins over Delphine Lansac, Fontaine Mica Chapman, Ksenia Polikapova and the number 1 seed Line Kjaersfeldt, from Denmark, saw Schnaase and German win the European Team Championships in February.

Schnaase, ranked number 28 in the world, also won the Swedish Masters, beating fellow German Olga Konon 21-16, 20-22, 21-19, while she defeated American Iris Wang to win the Peru International in April.

Magee put in a gutsy showing against Wang, who was the silver medal winner at the 2012 Olympics in London and is a former world number 1.

Magee will take heart from her display in the second set as she goes to court again tonight at the Riocentro.
