Audio: Jonny Bonner and Wexford Youths ‘buzzing’ after win over Finn Harps

JONNY BONNER ARRIVED at home in Buncrana on Wednesday evening as the opponent this week.

The Wexford Youths midfielder spent a couple of days back in Inishowen ahead of last night’s game against Finn Harps in Ballybofey.

Bonner would have a decisive say against his former club – he had two spells at Harps – as it was from his testing free kick that Gary Delaney headed in the 85th minute winner.

“It was a great header by the big man. He’s a handful in there and he made my cross look good,” Bonner said.

Youths were on a losing streak having lost their previous six League games, but last night they scored what could be a crucial win in the relegation battle.

The win takes them within eight points of Harps, while they’ve also narrowed the gap on Bray Wanderers, who drew with Shamrock Rovers last night.

Bonner said: “It’s a massive result. Bray drew as well so it’s great to catch up on them. It’s a big win.

“We knew we needed a point at least to get the spirits up and get points on the board again.

“That was a massive three points. A draw would have been great, but we’re buzzing to get away with the win.”
