After impressive show in Vegas, Joe Duffy wants fight in Ireland

AFTER A WIN in double quick time overnight in Las Vegas, Joe Duffy wants a bout in Ireland.

Duffy took only 25 seconds to defeat Canadian Mitch Clarke, a rear naked choke ending the fight before it had time to begin.

It returned Duffy – six months after a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 195 in January – to winning ways in the first of the main events at UFC Fight Night 90 at the MGM Grand.

Duffy had been set to fight Poirier at UFC Fight Night 76 in Dublin last October, but had to withdraw from that card owing to a concussion sustained in training the week before the bout.

The rescheduled fight took place in January, but Burtonport lightweight Duffy, now 15-2 as a mixed martial artist, is keen to fight on Irish soil again.

“I’m hoping that they’re either going to announce an Irish card or Madison Square Garden would be pretty sweet as well, with all the Irish there. I’d love to fight there,” Duffy said after an impressive win.

On his demolition of Clarke, Duffy added: “It’s good to be back. I’m confident in all my game. It was just a matter of being patient.”
