Martin McElhinney was at Croke Park today for the kit launch for the Etihad Airways GAA World Games

DONEGAL AND ST MICHAEL’S midfielder Martin McElhinney today helped launch the kit for the upcoming Etihad Airways GAA World Games at Croke Park.

On Saturday, McElhinney helped Donegal to a six successive Ulster final with a 0-17 to 2-10 win over Monaghan in Cavan.

The countdown to the Etihad Airways GAA World Games 2016 has intensified today with the unveiling of the official team apparel by team wear partners O’Neill’s House of Sport at Croke Park.

Footballers and hurlers from as far away as Australia, South Africa and Argentina will be among the 10 global regions represented by the 60 teams that take part in the week-long festival of Gaelic games that begins on August 7.

All of the players taking part in the Etihad Airways GAA World Games 2016 will be kitted out in apparel sponsored and supplied by O’Neill’s with a number of the unique GAA kit designs on display at a special launch held on the Etihad Skyline on the rooftop of Croke Park.

Uachtarán CLG Aogán Ó Fearghail said: “The pioneering players who are taking Gaelic Games to new audiences and new regions around the globe get a chance to show their talents in front of a home audience when the Etihad Airways GAA World Games come to Dublin next month.

“As well as playing their part in the growth of the GAA, I am delighted that they will also very much look the part thanks to the magnificent support that we will receive from O’Neill’s.

“O’Neill’s are synonymous with our games and with a finished product of the very highest quality. Their attractive and innovative designs will add greatly to the colour and uniqueness of this great occasion.”

CEO of O’Neill’s Tony Towell said: “Since 1918 O’Neill’s has been an integral part of the development of the GAA.

“It is a testament to the great games of football and hurling that the GAA continues to set new records through the expansion of its network of clubs overseas.

There’ll be as many as 500 matches played over the course of the Etihad Airways GAA World Games schedule with teams from across America, Canada, Europe, Australia, the UK, the Middle East and Asia on parade.

The week-long event will also include a coaching conference and a cultural heritage night as part of the programme.  The opening matches will be staged in UCD, Belfield. The finals will be played in Croke Park on August 12th hosting football, ladies football, camogie and hurling deciders.
