Letterkenny Gaels grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat as they made a late surge to overcome an experienced Naomh Padraig team in Pairc na nGael yesterday evening.

Letterkenny Gaels  2-6 Naomh Padraig Lifford 0-10

With 11 minutes left in the game Naomh Padraig were five points to the good and Gaels hit 1-4 in the last 10 to win by two. Assisted by a first half wind Paul Given opened the scoring on nine minutes.

The Gaels defence were resolute in the opening quarter and Blood Sub Aidan Hanley found the net on 20 minutes to give the home team a deserved advantage. The border town lads finished the half strongly with scores from David Friel, Jack Mahon and a brace from Kevin McBrearty. Half Time Score: Gaels 1-0 Lifford 0-5

McBrearty converted two frees early in the second half and Given and Friel put them six up as Gaels were finding it difficult to get to grips with the Lifford boys. Veteran Charlie Creevy then converted two long range scores for the Glebe men. Naomh Padraig kicked their last score on 18 minutes.

From then to the end it was all Gaels as Oisín Cannon with a fine point and a John Doran goal on 24 minutes left the minimum between the sides. Aidan Hanley now on as a sub levelled matters and Midfielder Declan McFadden put the home team in front to complete a fine  performance. Jason Doherty hit the insurance point for Gaels deep in injury time.

Letterkenny Gaels: Stephen Doherty, Anthony McDaid,  Bobby Carey Wayne Keown, Andrew Coll,  John Doran, Aaron Stewart, Liam Doherty, Declan McFadden, Donal O Malley, Charlie Creevy, Conor Coll,  Niall McManus, Gerard Gibbons, Oisín Cannon Subs, Paul McKenna, Aidan Hanley, Jason Doherty.

Naomh Padraig: Shaun McBrearty, Michael Ferry, Patrick McNamee, Pauric Brennan, Kenan Gallagher, Daniel McNulty, Conor Mulhern, Paul Given, Lawrence Crossan, Kevin McBrearty, David Friel, Jack Mahon, Aaron Vambeck, Donal Grant, Jeffrey Crawford.
