Audio: Odhrán Mac Niallais looking forward to ‘getting a rattle’ at Monaghan

MATCH-WINNER Odhrán Mac Niallais says Donegal are itching for June 25 to come around.

Donegal face Monaghan in the Ulster semi-final on Saturday-week in Cavan after overcoming Fermanagh 2-12 to 0-11 in Ballybofey yesterday.

Mac Niallais netted both of Donegal’s goals, scoring one in each half, to propel his side into another meeting with Monaghan.

It will be the fourth year in a row for the teams to meet in the Championship. The previous three were in finals, Monaghan winning in 2013 and 2015 with Donegal claiming victory in 2014.

“That’s a marker set down now for the big one that we’re looking for, to get a rattle at Monaghan,” Mac Niallais told Donegal Sport Hub.

“We’re looking forward to that and hopefully getting one over on them.

“People are doubting us because we have a few older players who have gone through some tough times and a lot of training.

“Those boys still have the drive. You see that every night. They have the drive to keep digging and digging.”

Mac Niallais ended with 2-1 to his name, also adding a delightful point to the Donegal total.

He said: “It was a tight, tight game. The two goals gave us a cushion going into the end.

“Any day you get two goals is a good day, but I’m just delighted that we got the win.”

He cracked home a brilliant first in the 13th minute, while his second was palmed home from close range after a superb move.

Mac Niallais recalled: “I just found myself at the far end from where the move started. I was in acres of space. Once Marty O’Reilly and Frank McGlynn get on the ball things will happen.

“When Marty gets going he’s hard to stop and I knew when he got on the ball he’d get it into me and it was a simple enough finish. I had to hit it first time and palm it in.”
