DOWNINGS WERE THIS afternoon crowned as junior Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta champions.

Na Dúnaibh 2-9 Rinn Mhaoile 0-12

A goal in each half did the trick for the Donegal side against Galway’s Rinn Mhaolie, who reached the final of the national competition last year only to lose to Aran Islands.

Today, due to a kit clash, Andy Connors’ team wore the colours of the host club Naomh Abán from Ballyvourney in Cork.

The sides were level at 0-5 apiece in the 32nd minute of the first half when Lorcan Connor tucked home from close range after a driven shot from Shay Coyle.

Gary McClafferty scored Downings’ second goal on 40 minutes after Colin Gallagher’s initial effort was blocked.

Downings: John McGroddy; Allen Pasoma, David Hay, Max Davis; D McBride, Bryan McGinley, Kevin Doerhty; Seamus McBride, Shay Coyle (0-1); Oisin Boyce, Finghin McClafferty, Jamie Lee McBride; Lorcan Connor (1-4), Gary McClafferty (1-2), Colin Gallagher (0-1).
