THE DONEGAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE and Inishowen Ladies League Under-14 squads are well positioned heading into their final group games at the Gaynor Cup in Limerick.
Bríd McGinty’s Donegal and Diarmuid O’Brien’s Inishowen remain hopeful of getting through to the knockout stage in the Cup competition, although each have a battle on their hands.
Last night, Donegal (pictured above) came from 2-0 down at half-time to draw 2-2 with Sligo-Leitrim, with Jessica Lesse and Ciara McGarvey on the mark for Donegal.
This morning, Gemma McFadden netted the only goal of the game as Donegal overcame Wexford 1-0 and they battled their way to a hard-earned 0-0 draw with Clare this afternoon.
They complete the group phase when they take on Longford tomorrow morning.
Inishowen (above) began in fine fashion last night as they hammered Carlow 6-1. Megan Havlin scored twice with Brianna Doherty, Shauna Ruddy, Erin McLaughlin and Beth Doherty all scoring.
This morning, Inishowen scored another impressive win as Brianna Doherty, Havlin and McLaughlin bagged the goals.
They followed that up with a tough 2-1 win over Midlands this afternoon. Havlin was again on target with Grace McColgan scoring the other goal.
Inishowen face Metropolitan Girls League (MGL), the pre-tournament favourites, in their final group game tomorrow morning.
