AILEACH FC WERE this evening celebrating victory in the Buncrana Credit Union Cup final.

Goals from James Gillespie and substitute Caoimhghin McFeely were the goalscorers in a famous win – it was Aileach’s first success at senior level having lost eight previous finals.

Aileach hit the front after 26 minutes when James Gillespie’s wonderful free kick from 30 yards soared beyond QPS goalkeeper Jordan McLaughlin.

Aileach threatened first when former USL star Ronan Coyle went close from a well-placed Darren McMonagle cross from the right, but Coyle’s header was superbly saved by McLaughlin.

Coyle turned provider as an inch-perfect cross picked out Dermot Doherty, but again McLaughlin denied him with a save.

Gillespie whizzed another free just over before QPS had an opening as Raymond Buchanan drilled over.

On the stroke of half-time, QPS could have drawn level, but Odhrán McColgan shot straight at John Roulstone from the edge of the box.

Seven minutes into the second half QPS threatened when Oisin McColgan went on a run but his shot was wide.

But it was almost 2-0 in the 58th minute when a free from Gillespie wasn’t held by goalkeeper McLaughlin and a header from Gavin Doherty was cleared off the line by Stevie Grant.
