THERE WERE Ulster Championship crowns for Illies Golden Gloves’ Chloe McDaid and Carndonagh ABC’s Jessica Clarke at the Ulster Girls Championships in Buncrana yesterday.

The Championships were held at the Illies GG Clubrooms in Buncrana with McDaid and Clarke joined in wins by a host of Donegal punchers, who were awarded walkover wins at their respective grades.

All of the boxers now go through to the National Finals, to be held at The National Stadium in Dublin.

In the Girl 13 division at 50kgs, McDaid inflicted a comprehensive defeat on Rathfriland’s Morgan McNulty with McDaid coming away with the unanimous verdict.

Clarke renewed an old rivalry with Aine Tanney from Carrickmore, but the Carndonagh woman came out on top.

Flyweight Clarke, already a two-time Irish champion, had beaten Tanney in the Ulster 9 Counties final earlier in the year, made no mistake here again with an emphatic display.

Carndonagh’s Clodagh McGonagle was beaten 3-0 by Kaci Crowley at Girl 11 44kgs, Kathleen Martin from Twin Towns BC was stopped by St Monica’s Amy-Lee Kelly in the opening round of their Girl 12 42kgs bout and Molly Simmons of Carndonagh was edged by Two Castles’ Catherine McSorley in the Girl 13 48kgs final.

Valissa O’Donnell (Twin Towns) was stopped by the impressive Grainne Gallagher at 60kgs in the opening round while Courtney Clare and Mairead Dobbins from Illies were beaten by Gilford punchers Shantelle Ritchie and Clodagh McComiskey.

There were walkover wins for the following Donegal boxers: Shania McCloskey (Carndonagh, Girl 12 44kgs), Kira McMenamin (Twin Towns, Girl 12 46kgs), Molly Catterson (Twin Towns, Girl 12 48kgs), Aine Gallagher (Twin Towns, Girl 13 39kgs), Allannah Sweeney (Twin Towns, Girl 13 42kgs), Leah Gallen (Finn Valley, Girl 13 52kgs), Alecia McMenamin (Twin Towns, Girl 14 60kgs), Ciara Craig (Dunfanaghy, Girl 15 46kgs), Kristina McFadden (Dunfanaghy, Girl 16 66kgs), Ciara Anderson (Girl 17 48kgs).
