THE 20th NORTH-WEST 10k took place in Letterkenny yesterday afternoon with close to 2,000 participating.

The two benefiting charities this year are the Donegal branch of the Irish Pilgrimage Trust and the Donegal branch of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus.

The race was won by Ciaran Doherty, the Burtonport man who runs for Letterkenny AC, in a time of 31 minutes and 59 seconds. Doherty previously won this event in 2003 and 2014.

Olympic Marathon hopeful Maria McCambridge was the winner of the women’s race with Ivan Toner of Letterkenny AC the first masters athlete.

After the race, Donegal Sport Hub caught up with a number of those who helped make the day a success: Not least, the winners Doherty and McCambridge; the runner-up Danny Mooney, who finished second after completing a triathlon in Derry earlier in the day; the Irish Athletics Team Manager Patsy McGonagle; the North-West 10k race director Brendan McDaid; and Creeslough woman Edith Neely who has taken part in all 20 North West 10ks.
