Donegal Town Nets win Shannonside League Cup

SENIOR MEN’S basketball in Donegal Town and the surrounding area is seeing something of a resurgence over the last couple of years.

This is mainly due to participation in the Shannonside League (SSL). A group of players coached successfully at schools and club level by Nigel Weir, Kevin Sinclair, John Kennedy and Paddy Muldoon has now graduated onto that 19-23 age group and this cluster is more than capable of competing on the hardwood courts from Derry to Galway, playing with DT Nets BC and near neighbours Donegal Town Basketball Club.

Some of these young players are being mentored at DT Nets by Aidan Campbell, William Timoney and, arguably the one of the best players to play the game in this area, Paul McHugh.

DT Nets Mens Squad is just one season in existence and has already made its mark by finishing second in the League to Longford Falcons and winning the SSL Cup by defeating the same opposition in a very competitive cup final. Both clubs in the Donegal Town area play in the well organised and competitive Shannonside League.

This involves long treks to the likes of Sligo, Athlone, Castlerea, Longford due to the fact that there is no Mens League in the Donegal or North West region.

Donegal Town Nets Basketball Club AGM

After a highly successful initial year Donegal Town Nets BC is holding it’s AGM on Thursday 28th April at 8pm in Central Hotel Donegal Town. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get involved with the club to come along and see what we are all about. The AGM is open to anyone who may consider membership of this new sports group.

The Mens Squad is eager to kick off the 2016-17 season with a few pre-season games, already lined up, so get involved from the start. For further information please contact the following club officers: Chairperson – Paul McHugh 087 4676420; Secretary – Nigel Weir 086 2346338; Mens Captain – Dillon Muldoon 087 6600865

Best Wishes

DT Nets would like to send best wishes to the Donegal Town BC U14 Girls Squad and Coach Kevin Sinclair who are playing in the All- Ireland Club Championships.
