THE DRAWS FOR the National Championships at Boy 4, Youth 1 and Youth 2 level have been confirmed by the IABA.

Donegal has plenty of interest in the Championships, which are set to glove off at the National Stadium this Friday evening.

Three-time Irish champion and former European Schoolboys bronze medalist Leon Gallagher of Finn Valley ABC is back upon the national stage again this week.

Gallagher, whose continental bronze came in the 2013 championships in Dublin, meets Edward Barrett (Titans) in a Youth 2 semi-final at 75kgs on Saturday.

Gallagher was crowned Ulster champion at Sunday’s finals at the Patrician Hall in Carrickmore, County Tyrone, by way of a walkover.

Bracken’s Dean Gunnery and Tommy Hyde from Setanta meet in the other semi at 75kgs. Gallagher is the younger brother of ten-time Irish champion and Olympic Youth bronze medal winner Michael Gallagher.

Convoy’s two-time Irish champion Bryan McNamee is aiming for national honours again and he steps through the ropes on Friday evening for a Youth 2 66kgs quarter-final meeting with Oliver Plunkett’s Adam Taylor.

St Bridget’s Clonmany man Edward McEleney, who was the Youth 1 champion in 2014, will meet Ratoath’s Christopher Fleming in a Youth 2 semi-final at 91+kgs on Saturday evening.

Earlier on Saturday, Dungloe’s Fionn McRuairi and Illies Golden Gloves’ Tiernan Ming are in action in Boy 4 quarter-finals. McRuairi jousts with Eric Bryne (Sacred Heart, Dublin) at 52kgs with Ming up against St Anne’s Oisin Brennan at 86kgs.
