GLENSWILLY GOALKEEPER PHILIP O’DONNELL has been included in the Sigerson Cup XV.
The PhD in Business student was called into the DCU team on Sigerson weekend in Belfast in February as his side overcame the hosts, Ulster University Jordanstown, who had Donegal players Patrick McBrearty and Ryan McHugh in their starting line-up, 1-14 to 0-13 in the semi-final.
O’Donnell – a two-time Donegal SFC winner with his native club in 2011 and 2013 – kept a clean sheet again in the final, although his DCU team lost out 0-10 to 2-2 against University College Dublin.
It means that O’Donnell joins clubmate Michael Murphy – who also lined out for DCU – as the first Glenswilly man to be named on the team. The Donegal captain was part of the 2013 selection.
Termon netminder Michael Boyle was on the 2012 team, having helped DCU to success that year.
Last Sunday, in the opening round of the AllSportStore.com All-County Football League Division 1, O’Donnell came on for Glenswilly out the field – with Donegal goalkeeping coach James Gallagher in goal – for the final 11 minutes in their 0-9 to 1-5 loss against Ardara.
