THE FIFTH STAGING of the Donegal Pool County Championships takes place in the Abbey Hotel, Donegal town, on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of April.

Players of all abilities and ages are welcome. In fact, Saturday’s team event has traditionally been won by teams who would have been considered rank outsiders at the start of the day.

This year there are a number of titles up for grabs: the prestigious team competition, the men’s singles competition, a ladies’ singles competition and an over-50’s competition.

There will be 8 championship tables in the venue with each table rental being sponsored by a local business. In addition, there are a host of spot prizes available to all players who participate in the team event.

In other news, the men’s county A and B teams are now decided after this season’s qualifier competitions. The lads will represent Donegal at the All-Ireland Inter-Counties which will be held in Ennis over the June bank holiday.

A team: David Moore, Phelim McClafferty, Charlie Ruddy, Shane Faulkner, Shaun Sharkey, Michael McLaughlin, Gareth Kirwan, Johnny Connors, Tony Mulhern, Dermot Hegarty.

B Team: Mark Moore, Donal Curran, Paul Boyle, Darryl Doherty, Rory Buchanan, Matthew Mahon, Patrick Duffy, Ronan Kennedy, Anthony Anderson, Declan Ryle.
