KATE KEANEY FROM Four Masters leads her University of Limerick charges to the O’Connor Cup weekend at Tralee Institute of Technology.

Keaney will captain the Munster side as they go in search of a third victory on the bounce.

Kaneshia McKinney is with DCU from St Eunan’s and Carndonagh’s Deirdre Foley will line out for UCD O’Connor Cup. Cloughaneely’s Roisin Curran is part of the UCD O’Connor Cup panel.

In the Giles Cup there’s her clubmate Aine Coll  from St Patrick’s Drumcondra, while Naomh Muire’s Hannah Gallagher and Caroline Sharkey are also with the teaching college.

In the Lynch Cup here’s Orla McGonigle – for DIT – from Gaeil Fhánada and Moville’s Blathnaid McLaughlin at UUJ.

Keaney’s UL open against McKinney’s DCU tomorrow at 3:30pm

“Obviously after Christmas your focus is qualifying for the weekend so we’re happy enough we’ve achieved that this year,” Keaney said. “It’s a very new squad compared to the last two years – we’re missing 17 from the last two years so it takes a while to rebuild. We’re looking forward to the weekend now and we know it will be a big challenge against DCU.

“There’s 10 counties. A good mix and good to play with ones from different counties.

“Getting to the finals weekend is the easy bit. when you get there there’s surprises every year. We’re not looking past DCU and they give us a hiding in the League. We’ll be up against it. It’s a building stage for us with a lot of Freshers and DCU are a great side with great players and we will need to be at our best.”
