TERMON POSTED VICTORY against their neighbours Cloughaneely in the Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta this afternoon in Falcarragh.

Cloughaneely 1-13 Termon 3-10

With Francie Friel now overseeing the fortunes of the Burn Road club, there was a 90-minute delay to throw-in with confusion over who was to take charge and no referee present and both teams eager to play James Trearty from Termon took charge.

To the credit of both teams, they produced a fine game when it did get started.

Termon scored the first four points and by the 19th minute were 1-5 to 0-3 in front with Anthony McGrenra scoring the goal following a Rick Gallagher assist.

Christy Connaghan grabbed a second goal just a minute later and at half-time the visitors were 2-6 to 0-7 in front with Darren McGeever scoring four points for the hosts.

Cloughaneely outscored their guests 0-5 to 0-2 for the next 20 minutes, up to the 50th minute, and were only 2-7 to 0-12 down, with Shaun Maguire, who scored four in all, helping McGeever – six points for the day – in the scoring stakes.

Then, in 52 minutes the sides were level when Cillian Gallagher’s high ball was spilled by Termon goalkeeper Conor Tinney and Paul Sweeney goaled for 1-12 to 2-9.

However, referee Trearty penalised Kevin Mulhern for a foul four minutes from time and Termon scored a third goal through Daire McDaid to seal the win, with McDaid’s total for the day reaching 1-5.

But it was a close close thing as late in the day Lee O’Brien rammed a shot off the Termon crossbar.
