On Friday, the Letterkenny side opened the competition with a 1-10 to 2-5 win over St Patrick’s College from Armagh.

St Eunan’s made two changes  to the starting line up  from the first group game with Pauric McGettigan and Dylan Doogan in from the start for Cormac Finn and Oran Winston respectively.

St Eunan’s struck the first score of the game with a Daragh Ellison free in the third minute but disaster struck when Aquinas got through for a goal in the seventh minute to take an early advantage.
Further points from Ellison and Conor O’Donnell had the College side levelled up by the 12th minute, 0-3 to 1-0.
Aquinas didn’t register another score until the 26th minute of the half. The Belfast side had their stall set very
defensively early on and it took the College side a while to get their running game going but eventually inroads where been made.
By that time further points from Shane O’Donnell, Conor O’Donnell and Conor Cullen gave the College side a two-point cushion.

The Aquinas centre-forward was dominating for his side but a switch saw Conor McKinney nullify this threat. Then Michael Gallagher was introduced in the 27th  minute for Keelan Margey  and Gallagher  pointed well from play for the final score of the half, leaving the score St Eunan’s College 0-8 Aquinas 1-1.

The tireless and lively Dylan Doogan scored the first point of the second half to push the advantage out to a five-point margin.

Then in the next 10 minutes the College hit a purple patch scoring 2-1 with the goals coming from top marksman Conor O’Donnell and a further point from Michael Gallagher.

Aquinas hit back with a goal of their own in 42nd minute to leave the score 2-10 to 2-3.

Further changes saw Oran Winston, Keenan Diver and Ronan Dorrian enter the fray for the College side. Two further goals from one Conor O’Donnell and a fortutious effort from Oran Winston sealed the victory for the Letterkenny side.

Good performances on the day from Anthony Gallagher, Daragh Ellison, Shane O Donnell and Dylan Doogan.

This leaves the College – managed by Chris Carr and Colm McFadden – on four points after two games and in a good position with one final group game to play on Tuesday next against Holy Trinity Cookstown.

St Eunan’s scorers: Conor O’Donnell 3-2, Daragh Ellison 0-3, Oran Winston 1-0, Shane O’Donnell 0-2, Michael Gallagher 0-2, Conor Cullen 0-1, Dylan Doogan 0-1.
