COLÁISTE NA CARRAIGE eased their way into the Danske Bank Arthurs Cup (Under-16) final by way of a 26-point win over Ballybay Community College at Irvinestown.

Coláiste Na Carraige 2-22 Ballybay Community College 0-2

Rarely have they had a game so lop-sided and it was certainly a dominant performance by Paddy Boyle’s team as second-half goals by David Love and Cealan Curran made an already-wretched night unbearable for Ballybay.

With Aaron Doherty again outstanding, Coláiste na Carraige bossed the contest and strolled their way to a final meeting with Breifne College of Cavan.

Ballybay – managed by Glencolmcille man and former Coláiste na Carraige student Ciaran Byrne – weren’t without their moments early on and there was a gasp of panic when Joel Wilson rose to flick on from Shane Forde’s ball in, but his effort was wide.

A pair of Lanty Molloy scores had Coláiste na Carraig 0-2 to 0-1 ahead, but little did Ballybay realise that a sixth-minute point from Aaron Mulligan would be their only score of the first half.

Doherty polished off a fine move before Ballybay’s Shane West saved a certain goal, taking off the goal line from Garry Molloy who worked the opening after David Love had won a turnover.

Doherty (free), Garry Molloy and a neat brace from Brian O’Donnell had Coláiste na Carraige 0-7 to 0-1 in front by the 15th minute and they finished the half with the scoreboard turning like a fruit machine.

A close-range Doherty free came in between another two by Lanty Molloy and with Coláiste na Carraige player queuing up to shot it was midfielder O’Donnell who had the final say.

O’Donnell hit the last two points of part one, the first of them the score of the evening from a position way out on the right hand side, to put his side 0-12 to 0-1 in front at the interval.

Three from Doherty helped them lead by 16 before the first goal arrived, Love finishing after Ryan O’Donnell’s shot came off the crossbar.

The crossbar came to the rescue of the by-now hammered Ballybay when Ryan O’Donnell slapped against the goal’s frame after a sweeping move involving Oran Doogan, Tadgh McGinley and Doherty.

It wasn’t long before another goal did arrive as Curran took a pass from Doherty before firing home past Dean Johnston

The impressive Doherty took his tally for the night to eight points as Coláiste na Carraige whistled through to the final.
