BALLYBOFEY MAN PAUL KELLY will compete in an Irish National Kickboxing final in April after coming through the qualifiers at the weekend.

The 28-year-old defeated Tooey Buskaw Banchamek from Galway Kickboxing Club at the Tallaght Leisure Centre on Sunday in the eliminations round of the full-contact section.

Kelly scored an impressive unanimous decision win to advance to the final.

Kelly will now meet the reigning IFK All-Ireland champion Eric Nolan in the 71kgs full-contact decider on April 24 at the Leixlip Amenities Sports Centre in County Kildare.

Kelly trains under Josie Murray with the Donegal Cobra Kai Kickboxing Club and fights out of Joe Hagan’s Kickboxing Club in Cookstown.

A member of Finn Valley ABC, Kelly could well appear in the boxing ring in 2016.

He is no kickboxing novice, either. A close friend of professional boxer Jason Quigley, Kelly was beaten in the Irish final in 2014 and represented Ireland at the WAKO European Championships in 2014.
