A 2-0 WIN OVER Cavan/Monaghan at An Screaban this afternoon made it two wins in the SFAI Inter-League for the Donegal Schoolboys Under-15’s.

First half goals from Stephen McFadden and Daragh Ellison sealed the win.

Conor McCullagh’s side made it two wins from two following their 4-1 victory over Sligo-Leitrim last month.

This afternoon at Gweedore, Donegal almost went in front when the Cavan/Monaghan goalkeeper Finn  Lotscher just did enough to get in to block as Liam McFadden.

Two minutes later, Marc Walsh went close when his effort went just wide before Stephen McFadden also was narrowly off target.

Donegal hit the front when, on 28 minutes, the visiting team were guilty of poor defending. Their two centre-backs – Kevin Blair and Mark Mooney – went for a long ball, which broke to goalkeeper Lotscher, who sliced an attempted clearance and Stephen McFadden tapped in.

Full-back Conor Doherty almost got in on the scoring act with a fine shot that was well-saved by Lotscher.

Then, on 33 minutes, Ellison made it 2-0 when he curled home precisely from the edge of the penalty area after Liam McFadden’s first shot was saved by Lotscher and his second was blocked by a defender.

The away team’s best chance came on the stroke of half-time when Paddy McPhillips drew a save from Eoin McGing after a half-cleared corner.

A spate of substitutions after the break took some of the rhythm out of the contest. Walsh flashed an effort across goal and Cavan/Monaghan passed up on a good chance to get back into it when Aaron Mccabe missed the target after Liam McFadden was caught in possession.

In the closing stages, Doherty’s volley was just over – a fine attempt – but Donegal, who head to Scotland this week for friendlies against Celtic and Hamilton Academical, can be content with their day’s work.
