Aodh Ruadh and Bundoran confirm amalgamation to form ladies team

ST JOSEPH’S WERE the leading club in Donegal in the 1960’s and 1970’s.

The amalgamation of Ballyshannon and Bundoran won seven Donegal SFC titles between 1965 and 1976 before going their separate ways again to Ballyshannon’s Aodh Ruadh and Realt na Mara in 1977.

Now, though, the two clubs have joined together once more.

Aodh Ruadh ladies adult team has depleted somewhat over the years due to work commitments, college, travel, emigration and retirements. Bundoran have not had a ladies team for over three years.

So both committees have made the decision to amalgamate their adult LGFA teams.

What does this mean?

It means all adult ladies that want to play Gaelic football in the Bundoran/Ballyshannon area will get the chance to and still be a part of their own club but play for an amalgamated team like back in the 1960s/70s when the men done it known as St Joseph’s – a name for the ladies team is still undecided.

All the finer details are still to be decided between both committees.
For now we just want to get the word out there to all players that are interested, there will be a meeting with all players over the weekend of February 20 and 21 – time and venue TBC

Also anyone interested in helping out in a manager/ selector role from either Bundoran/Ballyshannon please get in contact by emailing aodhruadhladies@gmail.com or bundoranladiesgaa@hotmail.com by Tuesday, February 16.
