Audio: Paul and Brian McVeigh on Letterkenny IT’s ‘team spirit’ after DIT win

BROTHERS PAUL AND BRIAN MCVEIGH turned the CFAI Umbro Cup quarter-final on its head this afternoon in favour of Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

The side managed by Shane Byrne trailed Dublin Institute of Technology by a goal to nil before Paul McVeigh levelled from the penalty spot before Brian McVeigh smashed home an 88th minute winner in a 2-1 win.

It means that LyIT’s fine season continues, with a place in the Umbro Cup semi-final to look forward to. As well as that, a 5-4 win last Wednesday over IT Carlow B means there’s also a Colleges’ and Universities Football League final against Dundalk IT to look forward to.

“It was very tense and we just kept it tight at the back and tight in midfield,” Brian McVeigh said. “There’s a great team spirit here and Shane has some in there and it’s very professional now.”

Paul McVeigh added: “In the second half to a man who stuck at it and ground it out, as we did all year. We want to get back to the Premier Division but the two competitions are equally important.”
