Audio: Ulster title is ‘just rewards’ says Carndonagh CS manager

MARTIN CAVANAGH SAID yesterday’s Ulster Senior Schools final win over Loreto Community School, Milford, was ‘just rewards’ for his Carndonagh Community School squad.

Last year, Carndonagh lost the final, 2-1 against Deele College but, with virtually the same panel, bounced back to take victory in yesterday’s decider.

”This is reward for the work they’ve done all year,” Cavanagh told Donegal Sport Hub.

“We trained every Friday after school. Today is just rewards for that. It helps the profile of the school in terms of what we’re trying to do with sport.”

Carndonagh bossed the early exchanges, but Connor Gormley’s penalty fired Loreto, Milford ahead, only for Cathal Farren’s second-half brace, the first from a penalty, to turn the tide.

Cavanagh said: “It was a case of keeping the head and letting the football do the talking. We did that and our footballers came to the fore.”
