Impressive Cathal Gallagher wins Ulster title in Belfast

CATHAL GALLAGHER WON the Ulster Novice Intermediate final at light-middleweight last night in Belfast.

The Twin Towns BC puncher overcame Ciaran Walsh of Silverbridge at the Dockworkers Club.

It was an impressive and dominant display by Gallagher.

The light-middleweight division was the most competitive of the week’s action and the path to glory certainly wasn’t straightforward with Gallagher having previously put James Bates (Bishop Kelly) and Evan Kenny (Cootehill) to the sword.

Against Kenny in Wednesday’s semi-final, Gallagher stopped his man in the second round.

And in last night’s final, the Twin Towns man was equally eye-catching.

Gallagher took a unanimous decision win. The long-reaching Gallagher was in control from the first bell to last, his movement and trickery proving too much for Walsh.

His Twin Towns club-mate Christina Reid won the Women’s Light-heavyweight division by way of a walkover.
