Joseph Duffy shows his class with reaction to Poirier defeat

JOSEPH DUFFY WAS magnanimous in defeat following his loss to Dustin Poirier at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Duffy lost to a unanimous decision from the judges, who gave Poirier the 30-26 30-27 30-27 verdict.

It was Duffy’s first defeat since he was beaten by Ivan Musardo in October 2011 at Cage Warriors 44.

Duffy has had hopes of a rematch with Conor McGregor, who he defeated in 2010 in Cork, but Saturday’s defeat to Poirier represents a set-back for the Burtonport native.

A bloody battle sapped the energy from both fighters, but it was Poirier, with blood streaming from his nose, who took the win.

Duffy sported a badly swollen left eye, but showed good sportsmanship when he took to social media afterwards:

Congratulations @DustinPoirier the better man won on the night! Thank you all so much for the support #UFC195 https://t.co/3gAzHzhqAv
