Letterkenny RFC Under-16’s go down to narrow loss against Rainey

‘LETTERKENNY RFC UNDER-16 side went down to a narrow one-try defeat against Rainey on Saturday.

Letterkenny 0-7 Rainey

In wet and wild conditions Fionn McGarvey started the match with a drop kick into the wind.

Rainey managed to escape their half through a kick which the wind brought all the way into the Letterkenny half. Strong defence from the whole squad kept Raineys attack at bay for quite a while but eventually Rainey got over the line for their first and only try of the game. It was scored by their second centre.

Letterkenny restarted well but Rainey played the rest of the first half in the Letterkenny half coming close to going over the line on a few occasions. Brave defence all round held them out until half time. The second half began with Letterkenny on the receiving end of the kick off.

In the ruck Letterkenny lost the ball and Rainey nearly got a second try but heroic tackling stopped the flow of play. Letterkenny then managed to escaped through a monstrous kick into touch. Letterkenny played out all the second half in the Rainey half apart from one held up chance for Rainey.

The flow was in Letterkenny’s favour but a dodgy decision from the referee cancelled out Letterkennys last chance of scoring to even up the game. Great performance all round for Letterkenny, unlucky not to win.
