Magees all out of luck at Baldoyle in Irish Open

THE MAGEES’ interest in the 2015 Carlton Irish Open ended today at the Baldoyle Badminton Centre.

Siblings Chloe, Sam and Joshua Magee, and their niece Rachel Darragh were in action across the various competitions, but all have now made their exit.

Double Olympian Chloe Magee, who aims to add Rio 2016 to her Olympic experiences from Beijing and London, lost out to Natalia Koch Rohde from Norway in the women’s singles.

Magee won the first set 21-19, only to be pipped in the second, 22-20 and it was the Norweigian who took the decisive third, 21-17 with the match lasting just over an hour.

The morning opened with Chloe and Sam teaming up for the mixed doubles and they took the opening set in convincing style, overcoming Robin Tabelling and Samantha Barning 21-9.

However, the Dutch pair took the win by claiming the next two sets 21-17 21-13.

There was disappointing in the mixed doubles, too, for Joshua Magee and Rachael Darragh, who were beaten by Poland’s Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba 21-7-21-8.

In the women’s doubles, Norway’s Julie Finne-Ipsen and Rikke S Hansen had the upper hand on Darragh and her partner, Sara Boyle, 21-14 21-13.
