LYIT book place in Trench Cup final after extra time win

Letterkenny Institute of Technology booked a place in the Trench Cup final this afternoon.

Letterkenny Institute of Technology 0-20 GMIT 3-8 (after extra time)

LyIT led 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time in Mallow.

Two goals kept GMIT in the game, but LyIT – managed by Donegal captain Michael Murphy – saw through to win.

Buncrana’s John Campbell top-scored with eight points, while Michael Langan weighed in with seven points.

At the end of normal time, it was 0-14 to 2-8 before a third goal put GMIT ahead in the extra period.

LyIT found their range again to squeeze through.

LyIT will face DKIT in the final after Oisin McConville’s men beat Waterford 0-17 to 0-11 in their semi-final.

The final is a repeat of the Division 2 League final, which Letterkenny won 3-14 to  2-15 in Garvaghey back in November.

LyIT scorers: John Campbell 0-8 (4f), Michael Langan 0-7 (5f, 1 sideline), Caoimhinn Marley 0-2, Bryan McNamee, Kealan McGroddy, Peadar Mogan 0-1 each
