Aodh Ruadh 2-19 Naomh Muire 0-8
The Ballyshannon outfit might’ve conceded the first point, when Shaun Yank Boyle was on the mark, but reeled off eight points in succession. By the half-time whistle, they were comfortably in front and go in 0-9 to 0-3 in front. Goals from Boyle put a shine on it.
In the second half, Barry Ward, the Aodh Ruadh manager would’ve been delighted to see his team keep their foot on the gas to run out easy winners. Oisin Rooney had an early goal chance for Aodh Ruadh, only to see his shot blocked by Fintan Doherty.
From their early concession, Aodh Ruadh started to stack the scores with Philip Patton posting three of his five in all, in that opening half. Johnny Gethins, Cian Dolan, Oisin Rooney, Niall Murray and Shane McGrath all got in on the act.
Naomh Muire were up against it but almost fashioned a goal late in the half when Darren Sweeney, from a sideline ball, shot for goal and Peter Boyle was forced to react quickly and make an awkward save with his thigh. The team from Annagry did pull two back late in the half with goalkeeper Declan Ward scoring a 45 and Darren Sweeney point, although aodh Ruadh had the final score of the half through Shane Gillespie.
In the second half, it was more of the same. The opening goal came on 37 minutes when Boyle shot past Declan Ward after a fine angled ball in from Patton. The Naomh Muire goalkeeper made a fine save nine minutes from time when he thwarted Murray after a move that involved Diarmuid McInerney and Conor Patton.
Johnny Gallagher, who represented Donegal under John Joe Doherty, scored a point in the 47thminute, as did McInerney, for a 1-14 to 0-6 lead. The second goal for Aodh Ruadh came when Boyle picked up on a loose pass to stride through and net. Patrick Rodgers was sent off in the closing stages.
